Let this Album Lead You into Light

Leading light "Heart" album cover

From the heart of an island that is both a country and a continent, three people with the heart for worship formed a band and a short while later, release an album that should be a solid addition to anyone who is a fan of the neo folk rock genre that is currently sweeping the church. Leading Light is not just following a trend, they are pouring Heart into what they are doing. In their debut, Heart, there’s a definite tangible feel to each song they have written, a definite soul and passion. Melding ambient folk with soft rock vibes, Leading Light expertly leads themselves and the listener into intimate worship.

The two main vocalists, Erika Croxford and Chris Quinton, not only blend well together, but on their own, are soulful and emotionally pulling. Erika’s soft voice has a tender quality with an undercurrent of brusque and smoke that is like incense rising to the ear. Chris Quinton’s voice is stirring, similar in timbre to Damian Rice or Rufus Wainwright, but with a bright hopeful quality. Acoustically, the instruments and vocals mix well together, creating an album that is excellent with each listen.

Most importantly, Heart is not only well produced and written, the songs themselves are designed not for large group worship, but for times of personal and intimate worship with God. Each explores different aspects of relationship with God. A personal favorite is “Strongest Place,” but you might find yours in “Heart,” “Lift My Eyes,” or any of the others.

Heart has a total of 10 tracks plus two bonus tracks of original recordings of the songs “Found” and “Heart.” Each track has the potential to move the heart from revelation to revelation in relationship with Christ.

Should you get this? Yes, if you want to add to your worship music collection. This is great for meditative worship.

Leading Light is based out of Newcastle, Australia.

I LOVE Strongest Place so much, but every song on the album is so beautiful and so full of grace and the presence of God.
