Homeward Bound in Warm Fuzzy EP

The band Fettered's cover for their Homeward EP

Melodic guitars, organs, warming vocals and drums come together to create a lush soundscape in Fettered‘s October 2016 release, Homeward. This EP contains five beautifully composed songs of faith and one cover of the traditional hymn “Shall We Gather at the River.” Fettered is band out of Everett, WA. Their goal is to write gospel songs that encourage the local and global church. Reminiscent of Sandra McCracken, Ghost Ship, and a touch of Johnny Cash, this EP is perfect for Christian ears wanting a warmer sound with heartfelt vocals.

Homeward begins with “Children of LIght.” In a wash of a soft palette of colors and welcoming vocals, this song exemplifies the price of Christ in lyrics that could fit an old hymn, but are set to contemporary sounds. “Redemption” kicks off with crunchy guitar and choruses of wailing guitars, emphasizing the weight and price paid by the blood of Jesus. Continuing into “Renewed by Him,” a dry and eerie start to this song reflects on the weariness of the state of the soul apart from Jesus, then meets a full chorus that wets the ears with hope. “Parable of the Sower” has an indie folk feel married with a tale about sowing into the kingdom of God. There’s a rousing version of “Shall We Gather at the River” and ends with a song inspired by a very old hymn written by Richard Baxter in the 17th century, titled “No Darker Rooms.” “No Darker Rooms” is a beautiful reminder of how close and the unwavering love that God has for us.

We highly suggest picking up this album as part of your collection. It’s put together beautifully and modestly without ego or awash with fame seeking individuals, these are simple people putting out the gospel in a simple way. You will not be disappointed.
