Songs From the Sky

To some, it may seem like the process of creating music, or art, seems to happen magically or fall out of the sky, but with the new album from Brandon Bee, Songs From the Sky, this is clearly a labor of love and development. In briefly chatting with Brandon Bee about this album, while he spent just a few weeks in writing and production, this is the result of having produced around 300 different projects and playing almost 1000 live shows to date. When talent is this well honed, it would seems as if things fall out of the sky or magically appear, but is the result of perseverance, faith, and of the relationship between a man and his God.

Songs From the Sky is best heard the first few times around with headphones to get the full effect of the intricacies of the production in stereo. The lyrics of “Comforter” echoes bits of 2 Corinthians, and Psalms. “Give You My Whole World” steps it’s toes into the concept of abandonment. This song builds from a simple guitar and vocal opening into a wash of electric noodles, rich layers of synthesizers in a well developed wall of sound. “Activate” with it’s melody that hints at 50’s bubble gum pop, and driving beat, unfolds into a golden cloud of sound falling from a neon cloud. With words that express the calling of God to the soul, it presents a rich listening experience. “Your Name Says it All,” “Remain,” and “I Celebrate the Lord” all paint strong pictures lyrically and embrace the relationship with Jesus. The final track on Songs From the Sky, “Your Great Love (Live)” sums up Brandon Bee as not just a producer, but as a worship leader. In this final track there’s an additional emotive expression that is not heard in the rest of the album. It’s subtle, but the conviction comes through with the live performance.

To sum it up, this is an album that you should get, especially if you like the sounds from the indie genre, Chris Tomlin, anything that the Cash brothers are producing, Bethel and Hillsongs.

Yes, you want this.

Brandon Bee lives in eastern Washington with his wife and several children.
