11-23-17 Jesus & Jams

Today’s scripture reading is Ephesians 6:11-18

As you read this, pray this prayer over yourself. Use each line of scripture, forming it as a request and prayer for yourself.

May your prayer be something like this:

Lord, our Father in heaven, help me to wear the whole armor of God, that I may be able to endure and stand throughout this day, and to continue to stand as a witness for you and your Word. Lord, help me to gird about myself with truth, not just any truth, but the Truth that comes from you and your Word.

Help me to know that this breastplate of righteousness is not my own, but comes from you. That I have not earned this righteousness, but you have granted it to me through Jesus Christ and I receive this gift of righteousness, for my own righteousness is nothing but filthy rags and will not protect me as your righteousness does.

Lord, help me to be prepared with the Gospel of peace. May wherever I walk, may your peace go before and follow me. Help me to rest in your peace, and prepare me for where ever you will lead me. For your Gospel is one of peace.

Lord, help me to hold the shield of faith. Help me to increase in faith, help me to have the strength to carry the shield of faith, and strengthen my faith so that when I am challenged, I know the truth and am able to stand firm and deflect those that would try to break down my faith.

Lord, I also proudly wear your helmet of salvation. May it be a beacon, a brilliant reminder to those around me that I am saved by you! May it be a shining example of what it means to be a Christian, and may your light be reflected from it.

I also take up the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Help me to know how to use this sword. May I spend many hours, days, and times, meditating and using the Word so that I may be accustomed to using it with skill and appropriately.

Finally, Lord, help me to remember to pray, to continue to consult you in all matters throughout my day, and to remind me to pray for my brothers and sisters!

We have paired today’s scripture with Noah Ellenwood’s song Battle Cry. Noah Ellenwood is currently residing with his parents in the Czech republic. Click on the image below to download for free!

This daily devotional is simple.

We post a scripture passage to read. We provide a link if you do not have a bible to read it on the web. If you are not fond of the version used, you can easily change to the version or translation you prefer.

We then post questions about the text you just read, or direction for prayer for your life.

We do not have an answer key for the questions, the answer is found in your relationship with God.

With the scripture, we have a link to an independent Christian music artist and their song. Maybe the song is a cover of a well known worship song, maybe the song is an original, and sometimes the recording isn’t what you would find from a high end studio, but we believe there is something of value in the recording.

However you come about this devotional, we pray that your relationship is strengthened with God and that you grow in grace, love and truth.

Tell us why you like it!
