Honesty and Purity in Simple Worship
Simple.
Honest.
Pure.
Truly all you need to worship is a voice and a guitar. A voice to carry the melody and a guitar to support the chords played that support the melody. With simple honesty, Ray Nugent pours his heart from a humble vessel that overflows with purity. Meandering through a stream of intimate melodic prayers, songs form and inspire a deeper relationship with God in Some Worship EP.
The EP begins with simple strumming on “Holding On.” With a voice that is similar to an old folk singers style, Ray Nugent’s voice is rife with passion and emotion. “Deeper” explores the yearnings of going into a deeper relationship with God. Beautifully sung, intimately expressed with just a guitar and voice, it’s excellent. “You Are” is easily to be sung along with and could potentially be incorporated into a worship service. This is the gem and highlight on Some Worship. Ray Nugent ends out the ep with “Greater Measure.” This last song compares God’s glory to the love of God. When a Christian stops to pause and think about how the two are intwined and inseparable, it’s a bit overwhelming. This is an outstanding EP worth many listens.
Like many artists who write songs, Ray Nugent is largely obscure on the internet. This is not a terrible thing, and also reminds us that it’s not about us, but ultimately about God. Some Worship was produced by Dewey Rogge.
