Salsa Your Way into Worship!
Horns, claves, latin rhythms and a bit of smooth jazz dominate the EP Fuego by the band Breath Spirit & Life. Sung entirely in Spanish, this is a rehash of some of the best tracks from their 2015 release, Flame On, with the addition of a new surprise. Expertly blended together, chimes, vibes, strings and soul, soar on this complex album.
Opening with “Yaywey,” the female vocalist soars and invites the listener in with a breathy ease and develops into some power. The horns and rhythm section invite you to get up and dance in joy, quickly racing through over five minutes, which is over too quickly. “Yeshua” opens with a somber trumpet, then quickly develops into a relaxed salsa beat, which is rich and well defined with mature vocals. The third track on this album is “Ya No Llores Corazon,” the origins of this song come from verses in Jeremiah and are meant to remind that God will never leave or forsake His people. It’s a love song through and through. The new addition is “O Mi Cristo (Suavecito),” a reworking of the original song ‘Suavecito’ from the band Malo, into love for Christ instead of the poem for a young school girl. Rounding out this EP are the tracks “Christo” and “Mi Alma Hoy Te Entrego A Ti.” Many of the guitar solos throughout this release are from Grammy winner Gilbert Velasquez, who also was a co-producer, and engineered, mixed and mastered Fuego.
This is a well produced and excellent sounding album! The melodies throughout are a joy to listen to and dance along with. If you’re more into English than Spanish, you can pick up Flame On or Sword of the Spirit on their website!
