If You are Lost, Get Found via Marshall Marshall
Sometimes, you have no idea you were looking for something until you find it, and when it comes to Marshall Marshall’s Lost // Found album coming out on Friday, we can say, we’ve found it! What is Lost // Found exactly? It’s an expertly mixed concoction of bubbles, slick soundscapes, screaming risers, and danceable beats that will have you jumping up in down in slow motion the awesomeness of Jesus. The production is equal to secular artists like Illenium, Said the Sky, Sound Remedy, etc. Lyrically, the songs explore themes that examine the state of man and the relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Marshall Marshall describe themselves as ‘a girl, a guy, and a computer…with the goal of spreading the hope they have in Jesus.’ This combination has led to several remixes, and a few albums, the newest being Lost // Found.
This album begins with an exuberant ‘Hey!’ and jumps into “Where You Go,” a track that explores the relationship and journey with God, and we are eager to follow. “Shadows Fade” expertly paints sonically the description of what sound looks like when shadows fade into light. You can literally hear light pouring into dark corners as ‘a girl’ sings. “Righteous” has edges of folkiness that dances into a electronic symphony. “Everything to You” explodes with pop sensibilities, deep theology and the element of abandonment in relationship with God. There are a total of 13 tracks on this album, and the album flows together quite well, telling a story of following God, grace, Jesus, and love that is unending. “Guiding Light,” “Through it All,” “One of Us,” are also excellent.
Many of the songs follow EDM rules, typically verses that paint a story of high emotional value, eloquently stated, with a short chorus that is punctuated with melodic hooks. For the EDM fan, this is something you are going to fall in love with. The production will transport you to another place, the lyrics are all about Jesus, and it’s current and something your mother will probably be ok with and your grunge loving father will roll his eyes over. The singing is executed well and not overshadowed by several vocal effects that add a touch of electronic heaven.
Should you?
Yes. If you love EDM. If you enjoy well written lyrics, yes. If you can’t stand EDM… give it a listen on Spotify when it comes out, to purvey and peruse this selection, you might find you have found something you weren’t looking for. Marshall Marshall definitely have something to offer the body of Christ.
