A Sincere Introduction to a Sincere Pursuit
Sincere faith produces honesty and truth. In David Singleten‘s A Sincere Introduction, we get a taste of the truth in the midst of living a difficult life, with difficult choices. Packed with scripture and application of a deeper relationship with Christ, David doesn’t hold back or shy away from who he is in Christ and what God wants us to be. This is no surprise, as David served as a Youth Pastor in a small church in Lansing, Michigan. His passion for Jesus and ministry is deeply apparent in this jam packed album.
David Singleten opens with affirming where and what God is all about and where David places his faith, with “All of it Done.” He doesn’t stop there, David presses in and proclaims that God is not satisfied with just a portion of us, but all of what we are. Developing upon that theme, “Galatians 6-9” spells out the cost of following Christ. In the vein of CS Lewis’ Screwtape Letters or even some of the tracks from the eclectic 80’s Christian artist, Carman, David Singleten paints a clear picture of introducing us to the enemy in “Introducing Satan.” Appropriately after this, “I’ve Been Praying” comes in with swirling synths and how we cannot save each other, but the only way that we can save someone is by praying for them. There are a total of nine tracks on this album, “In You Alone” is the most melodic, readily accessible for people of all backgrounds.
The message throughout A Sincere Introduction, is hope from a grim and dark world. Between the fragile and human moments of David singing hooks, to his emotionally riddled rappings that reveal a deeply sincere faith, The beats are primarily simple, but well produced. They support David’s message without getting in the way of his vocals, and support the undercurrent themes very well. This is definitely an excellent rap/hip hop album that focuses completely upon a walk with Christ.
